Zurab Kalandadze (1953) is Georgian by descent and has been living and working in the
Netherlands for 25 years now, as a poet and painter under the name of Kalanda.
The most important themes of his poems are love, the beauty of nature and complete
human freedom. They give a special perspective on his personality as a peaceable citizen
of the world and cast an exceptional light on his spiritual world.
He writes poems both with and without rhyme, but always with a recognisable harmonious
and musical undertone. In the poem: “The sun of a new age” he depicts his artistic
viewpoint in this new age with a few casual brushstrokes: A heightened awareness of
origin and nationality, a meaningful existence and an opening into a worldwide contribution
of actual importance.
